Reception, Year 1 and 2 did an amazing performance for our nativity this year, The Fleece Force! They all put so much effort and determination into their performance, after many hours of rehearsals, really did pay off! Well done Class 1 and 2. Thank you to everyone who supported the nativity, this could not happen without you! Merry Christmas.
Last week we had our very first ‘Film Night’ at Levens CE School. It was brilliant!
We came back to school when it was very dark in our pjs and onesies with our teddies, blankies and pillows to enjoy just one of the fabulous Christmas films on show at Levens Cinema! During the performances we ate hot dogs and popcorn. It was such a lovely night and we are already planning next year’s event!
In Class 4, we’ve been embarking on an exciting mathematical journey, delving into the fascinating world of square and cube numbers. We’ve been using multi-link cubes to help us visualize and understand these special numbers.
A square number is a number multiplied by itself. For example, 4 is a square number because it’s 2 multiplied by 2 (2 x 2 = 4). We can represent square numbers visually using our multi-link cubes by arranging them in a square formation.
A cube number is a number multiplied by itself three times. For instance, 8 is a cube number because it’s 2 multiplied by 2 multiplied by 2 (2 x 2 x 2 = 8). We can visualize cube numbers by building 3D cubes with our multi-link cubes.
While square and cube numbers are related, they also have distinct characteristics. Square numbers result in 2D arrays (squares), whereas cube numbers form 3D arrays (cubes). Some very astute pupils also noticed that you can go further and multiply a number by itself four times over (eg. 2x2x2x2=16) but you would need another way of representing this (a fourth dimension!)
By exploring these concepts hands-on with our multi-link cubes, we’ve gained a much deeper understanding of square and cube numbers. We’ve also developed our problem-solving skills and learned to think critically about mathematical patterns.
What a brilliant, brilliant afternoon we all had at Dallam on Wednesday.
A crisp, cold, fresh and beautiful day was experienced as our 31 entrants battled against opposition on a very tough course, to do themselves and their school, justice.
Several medals were won, it is true, but an even better outcome was that all competitors, showed guts and determination, remembering everything they had learned and trained for, leaving nothing ‘in the tank’ on their way to the line. Staff and parents in attendance were in awe of what was achieved. To all runners, thank you for showing your best, onwards and upwards!
On Tuesday, all pupils from nursery to Y6 enjoyed an immersive afternoon learning about art from the Hindu, Buddhist, Islamic and Jewish faiths.
A huge thank you to everyone who sent a postcard to school over the summer. We now have a wonderful display showing a variety of places visited in the UK and the wider world. If you are going away over half term please send a postcard so we can add more destinations.
A huge well done to all of the students who took part in our KS2 production of ‘Jonah’ this year! Everyone did an amazing job and we are very proud of you. From the dancing sea creatures to the voice of God, everyone gave it their all and it was great to see all of the parents leaving with big smiles on their faces.

Class 1 have enjoyed a lovely afternoon creating butterflies with their Year six buddies!
First they created a wash of colour using a range of colours. Once these were dry, year six supported the children making the shape of the butterfly by folding the paper and drawing one half of the butterfly. They loved opening them to see their butterflies emerge like magic!
We then used a range of different mark-making tools to decorate the wings – including sponges, straws and paintbrushes. We look forward to sharing our original creations with you at our next Celebration Assembly!
Class 4 have recently visited Fellfoot Park to enjoy a session with Jaqui from ‘Waterwise’ learning some basic survival skills for when we are out and about this summer visiting local lakes and rivers.
We enjoyed some fun games alongside receiving some very important messages about the dangers hidden in open water and how we can help someone in trouble, take the necessary precautions to avoid danger and what to do in an emergency.
We also enjoyed a lovely picnic in the sunshine and fun on the park together before returning back to school. It was such a great day, helped by some of the best weather we’ve seen in June!
Reception had a wonderful time yesterday visiting the butterfly house in Williamson Park Lancaster and spending the afternoon on Arnside beach. We loved seeing all the different stages in the butterfly life cycle first-hand and were lucky enough to be able to see a beautiful atlas moth which had recently hatched. We met one of the resident tortoises and a terrapin and learned about their habitats and diets. The cave was also explored, where we could see stick insects, spiders and even an axolotl! The guinea pigs enjoyed a stroke by some of us and the meerkats were eager to meet us when they discovered we had tasty banana treats!
We enjoyed lunch in the sunshine before heading back to the bus for some time on the beach at Arnside. Ice creams were on the menu with the beautiful weather and we enjoyed digging in the sand, making ‘jelly mud pies’, mark-making and scavenger hunting.
A wonderful day was had by everyone!
