Class Three – Years 3 & 4


This is Class 3 where our Year 3 and 4 pupils are taught by Ms Chapman and are supported by Mrs Mason,

 

What are we going to be learning this term?

Curriculum Overview:

Maths: We start the year by looking at place value, following this we will look at addition and subtraction including written methods. We will then move on to looking at multiplication and division and finish the term by looking at area.

English: This term we will look at poetry connected to fireworks and Diwali, we will look at fact files, instructions and story writing (focusing on fronted adverbials and grouping sentences into paragraphs. We will look at the books Stone Age Boy, How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth, Ug: Boy Genius and The Tooth Book.

Science: This term we will be learning about animals including humans. This will include bones and digestion, healthy eating and teeth. This will include lots of exciting experiments.

Topic: Stone Age to Iron Age will be our focus for this term and will include a trip to Keswick. We will learn about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age and changes throughout this period in history.

SCARF: SCARF stands for the values we uphold in school - Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship. In explicit teaching sessions we will cover topics under the themes of ‘Me and my relationships’ and ‘Rights and responsibilities’.

PE: Mrs Craggs will be teaching one PE session and I will be teaching the other session. This half term, Year 4 we will be looking at confidence in the water and water safety, along with learning and developing different swimming strokes and Years 3 and 4 will be learning invasion skills.  Don’t forget that every Friday, children come to school in their P.E kits as they will all be having a fun-filled session with Barrow Raiders, more details on this will follow.

Computing: We will be looking at connecting computers the first half term. After half term we will be learning about the internet.

RE: Our Christian Value for this term is truth. Our topic in the first half of the autumn term is ‘Called by God’ examining what it means to be called by God in different religions. Following this we will look at Christmas, in particular why Jesus is described as the light of the world.

D&T: Our first D and T topic will be pneumatic toys; this will take place in the first full week of term. Shoe boxes are needed for this topic. Later on in the term we will work on a textile topic producing a pin cushion. Spare material and stuffing would be greatly appreciated.

Art: Art will focus on two topics this term; we will look at Stone Age drawings producing stone circle pictures. After this we will look at cave paintings. Both of these link perfectly with our history topic.

French: We will be learning about transport and different forms of travel. We will also look at shopping, this will include numbers 1 to 69.
