Still-LIfe Studies

Class 4 have been developing their skills to draw three dimensional objects accurately on a 2 dimensional surface using art pencils, pencil crayons, pastels, water colour and ink pens.

We studied the work of Paul Cezanne in detail – exploring how he used colour and texture to create 3D effects of everyday objects including fruit, plates, vases, jugs etc.   After practising our skills extensively using a range of media and studying his work in detail; we created still-life arrangements of our own.

Multi-Faith Week

We have learnt so much this week during our focus on the sacred texts of four different religions – Islam, Buddhism, Judaism and Hinduism.

Each day, every class learnt about one of these religions with one of our four class teachers which culminated in sharing all our learning in our Celebration Assembly on Friday morning.

On Friday we also reflected on what we had enjoyed about our learning and why it is important to learn about religions followed by millions of people both in Britain and across the world.

Amazing Archaeology

Class Three had an amazing archaeology workshop this afternoon. They learnt all about the work of archaeologist, how they conduct digs and also the other tools they use such as aerial photographs. The children looked at maps and decided where they would build a settlement and provided their reasons. All the sites identified were actually settlements! The highlight of the afternoon was discovering how archaeologist know about the foods people ate in the past. A massive thank you to Claire and Sophie from Morecambe Bay Partnership for organising the workshop.

Ninja Warrior fun!

We were treated to a wonderful visit from Jonny and Michelle last week from Ninja Warrior Kids! Jonny, who won the Ninja Warrior final in 2017 delivered an inspiring assembly about growth mindset, resilience and achieving our goals. Each class took part in their own Ninja Warrior style obstacle course throughout the day which was fun and challenging for all! Thank you for a wonderful day!

Car Creations!

Class Three have put their creative talents to good use once again! Our DT topic this term is slingshot cars. We started the topic by creating a chassis, next we looked at a variety of vehicles and learnt about air resistance. We used our new knowledge to design our car bodies and then constructed these by making side panels and the roof. Our design brief included making the vehicles aesthetically pleasing, reduce air resistance and be quick! I think you will agree that they all look fantastic.

We had great fun trying them out!

Class 4 Vaping Workshop

Class 4 have recently been involved in a workshop run by the Cumbria Addictions Advice and Solutions (CADAS) team. We explored the risks associated with vaping – particularly in children and young adults. This is a trend which unfortunately appears to be on the rise nationwide, so it was useful for our students to get the facts and learn more to keep themselves safe. All of the students engaged well with the session and asked thoughtful, considerate questions – well done all!

Further advice and support on this issue, along with many others, can be found on the CADAS website.

Class 2 Shapes!

We have started the Spring term off with learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Here are some pictures of us doing some exciting learning!

South Cumbria Cross Country Trials

On a wonderfully bright, sunny and cold afternoon, 27 Levens runners undertook the South Cumbria trials over a challenging and muddy course at Casterton, climbing railway embankments, and taking on hilly inclines. This was done, without exception, in a positive and determined way and staff present were in awe of resilience and fantastic unselfish support for the whole team. Well done everyone!

Five Levens children, have progressed to the next stage and will be representing the school at the Cumbria trials in Penrith later this month. The personal successes includes, placing in the top three for two of our girls and a team bronze in the Y5 girls’ race. Amazing outcome on an amazing day!

We go again at Elleray in March!
