This week, Scafell were learning all about how to create dens with tarps, ropes and pegs. The first challenge involved making a taut ridgeline to support the tent. We explored different ways to create anchor and tension knots; we carefully chose the locations of our tents; and then many groups used their imagination with natural materials to act as tent pegs to secure the shape and structure of a stable tent. Well done everyone!
We are at the end of the cross-country season and to celebrate our success and our love of running, we enjoyed a very special final event at Sizergh Barn on Friday afternoon.
This week, we left school to run the farm trail accompanied by our two very keen running enthusiasts and coaches, Mrs Mason and Mrs Coker. Afterwards, we enjoyed hot chocolate and cakes whilst watching the cows in the milking parlour. Each member of running club received a medal and certificate for their determination, resilience and progress over the last few weeks.
Good luck to Oscar, who later this week represents Cumbria at the National Cross-country championships! Go for Gold!
We had a wonderful day on Friday – all organised by our amazing School Council.
During the week, pupils had been given the opportunity to buy red noses. Then on Friday we dressed in our pjs, enjoyed delicious cakes purchased during our breaktime cake sale and many pupils entered our ‘Design a new Red Nose’ Competition.
Today, School Council met to count all the money that had been raised – an incredible £159! Thank you to everyone who baked, bought red noses, entered our competition and dressed up on the day – A great Levens’ team effort!
Thank you to all those of you who came to join us for our outdoor nature craft Toddler Taster session this morning. The children had lots of fun exploring in the mud kitchen, making clay faces with natural objects, flower crowns, stick people and transient art using natural objects!
Mrs Farraday doesn’t often receive phone calls offering school money…but this is exactly what happened yesterday! Sampool Caravan Park held a fundraising event recently. They wanted to support a local organisation with the proceeds and chose us. Angela and Steven presented us with a huge cheque for £249.00 in a special assembly today. We did a wonderfully rousing three cheers and thanked them for their generosity. Mrs Farraday’s already thinking how best to spend the money and we will let the home owners and staff at Sampool know as soon as we’ve decided.

Skiddaw class have been learning about the benefits of Fairtrade and Mrs Mason has baked with every member of the class this week using Fairtrade items of bananas, sugar and chocolate. We held a Fairtrade tea and coffee afternoon on Friday and the canteen was bursting at the seams with takers for cups of Fairtrade tea or coffee along with slices of our baking. Shopper also purchased things from Pam and Eco team’s Fairtrade stall which sold £131.45 worth of goods. Thank you to everyone who queued so patiently and came along to raise awareness of this important issue.

We have been involved in a Scavenger Book Hunt today to celebrate World Book Day. In teams we had to search in books and find a long list of different things like an apple, some magical words, a contents page or a sad character, We worked really well, gathering our findings and exploring the many books that we have in our classroom.
We were so amazed at your creativity in making wooden spoon book characters. Here are some close up photos of ours and us hard at work with our hunt.
The aim of World Book Day is to celebrate authors, books, illustrators and – of course – reading! That is exactly what we have been doing today. This year, instead of dressing up we challenged the pupils to create a wooden spoon book character … and they rose the this challenge WONDERFULLY! We have also been busy doing book activities in class and shared books together in our family groups. Thank you to all families who helped and worked together on this project. One winner from each class will be announced in tomorrow’s Celebration Assembly. Take a look at their creations here.
Last week, Reception and Year one enjoyed a visit to St John’s church to listen to Canon Thompson talk to them about baptism. They have been learning what is involved during a Christian Baptism and what it means to be baptised. Canon Thompson then baptised a doll, some of the children were parents and godparents. He talked about what happens, some of the words which are spoken and the promises that are made. The children enjoyed their visit and shared all that they had learnt at our celebration assembly on Friday.
