Bowfell Class have been carrying on with their topic on Plants. This week we have been looking at the plants we grow, which bits of the plant we eat and the importance of a healthy, balanced diet.
This afternoon Reception and Year 1 made two different salads. We talked about a salad being a great way to ensure we eat a good portion of the recommended 5 a Day. All the children worked confidently in their groups, using all the skills Mrs Mason has taught them, to follow the recipes.
Year 1 made a Carrot and Sultana Salad. They had to peel and grate the carrot, juice a lemon and weigh out some sultanas before mixing and adding a splash of lemon juice and olive oil.
Reception made a fruit salad, They carefully sliced the fruits, using bridge cuts, to keep their fingers safe.
The best bit of the afternoon, the tasting! ‘scrumptious’ ‘yummy’ and ‘is there anymore?’ could be heard as the children tucked into their delicious salads.
